B-17, B-24 TO THUNDER OVER MOFFETT FIELD THIS WEEKEND Two fully restored World War II vintage bombers, a B-17 Flying Fortress and a B-24 Liberator, will be on display and available for rides this weekend at Moffett Field. Sponsored by the Collings Foundation of Stow, Mass., a non-profit educational organization founded in 1979 to organize and support "living history" events designed to teach Americans about their heritage, the nationwide "Wings of Freedom Tour" will be at Moffett Field May 31 through June 3. The aircraft will be on display on Friday, May 31 from 3:00 p.m. PDT to 6:30 p.m. PDT, and from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2. The aircraft will also be on display on Monday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PDT. "The Collings Foundation's B-24J Liberator bomber and the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress are flying museums and are authentic 'War Birds'," explained Kory Stendell, a foundation spokesperson. "Their tour has special significance this year as we remember and celebrate the national spirit that made our nation the greatest in the world." The foundation requests a donation of $7 for adults and $3 for children to tour the aircraft. Thirty-minute flights in either aircraft are available for a tax-deductible donation of $350.
