Going to Mars Habitat

Narrative Description


For living on Mars we designed a vegetation module. It will be in two parts. One half will  be used for producing plants for food and the other will have plants converting carbon dioxide from the astronauts living quarters into oxygen. Tubes would be attached to the astronauts housing unit to transport the air and carbon dioxide exchange. Probes with water imported from the ice on Mars will give the plants water.  Solar panels will warm and support the plants.

The module will be a 9x50ft.cylinder. It will be of a light carbon fiber that will be inflated after being dropped on the Martian surface. Grasping claws will anchor the cylinder to the Martian surface.

Compare/Contrast Analysis

 Our design could be used on Earth as a green house in harsher climates, possibly in high mountainous areas or Antarctica.  Finding a way to have a constant supply of oxygen would be a major accomplishment for survival on Mars where there is no such problem on earth. Also creation of a steady source of water in both Antarctica and on Mars is a goal this habitat might help answer.
