Hi there!

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 10:59AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
Welcome to the first Homeschoolers Chat in this new year 1997. Live From
Antarctica II is about to launch are YOU ready???

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:01AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Hi Gayle. I hope your holidays went well.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:02AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
I will be right back I have to go off line for a moment. Please continue
without me.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:02AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
Hi Don, how were your holidays?

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:03AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
I'm glad you're here, could you hold down the fort for a moment, I have
to make a quick telephone call and I'll brb.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:05AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Our holidays went well. I was able to take a week off of work. The whole
family got rollerblades for Christmas, so we are all discovering muscles
that have never been used before.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:12AM PDT (-0800
GMT) I'm back!

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:12AM PDT (-0800
GMT) Ouch!

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:12AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
You say that Live From Antarctica II is starting. I haven't checked into
what they will be doing yet. I am swamped enough with MTO as it is. I
think that my kids and I will just take an observational view of LFA II.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:12AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
I just got back to going to the Y to work out now after 2 weeks of
visiting and being visited.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:15AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
I found a great book at the library this morning. Isaac Asimov's Library
of the Universe, "Projects in Astronomy". Project 2 is 'Creating a Martian
Landscape' using the tray and water activity.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:15AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
I'm curious. Looking out my window I am watching the sleet coming down.
This makes me wonder what your weather would be like right now.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:16AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
It's ISBN number is 1-55532-401-0 and call number is j523 ASI.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:18AM PDT (-0800
GMT) Cold, colder and coldest. Not too much snow but everything is frozen.
Not good for breathing if you're insides aren't used to the cold.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:18AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
I will look into that book at one of libraries in the area.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:29AM PDT (-0800
GMT)
I've just printed off the LFA2 Update #1 and I'm in it. I've been asked
to serve as the Canadian Distribution Agent for PTK. So my address and
info is in there for ordering information. I'm very excited about this. I
can't wait to start.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:32AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Sorry, I'm back. I just got two lengthy phone calls. Since I am at work,
I figured I probably should take care of that. I had another class last
night. We are doing activity 1.2. Last night we made our shoe-box
landscapes. Next week we will switch boxes and measure/probe the
contents.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:34AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
I assume that I can get to the Live From Antarctica II website via
quest.arc.nasa.gov. What types of activities will they be doing?

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:36AM PDT (-0800
GMT) Take a peek at the site.
http://quest.arc.nasa.gov//antarctica2/main/o_msg.html

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:36AM PDT (-0800
GMT) It doesn't seem to be up on the Quest site yet.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:39AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Thanks, I will. Where are you at with MTO, now? How are your activities
coming along?

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:43AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
I briefly checked out
http://quest.arc.nasa.gov//antarctica2/main/o_msg.html. Thanks for the
address. I will spend more time tonight going through and seeing what
they will be doing.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:45AM PDT (-0800
GMT) We're improvising with the activities and doing some gravity
experiments while exploring the density relationship between Mars and
Earth.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:46AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Back on MTO... I have been meaning to check and see if there are any more
live chats scheduled
for the next couple of weeks. Do you happen to know of any?

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:47AM PDT (-0800
GMT) I'll be taking the PTK Kit I have (which has bits and pieces from
several different programs) to the school board soon to introduce it to
them. We will have to have several more schools locally involved before
we'll be able to get our local cable (equivalent to PBS) to show them.
We'll also have to put somethings in writing to the PBS stations to see if
we can convince them to carry them Live.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:48AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
What are doing to explore the density relationship?

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:50AM PDT (-0800
GMT) Well were taking balls inflated and deflated and weighing them to see
if they weigh the same amount. Do you have any other suggestions I could
use some :)

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:53AM PDT (-0800
GMT) It's difficult to try to explain to 5 year olds but It is my
difficulty not theirs, they understand things well if I know how to
present them properly. Trying to explain that just because the earth is
almost twice the size of Mars, does not mean the gravity is that
difference as well.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:54AM PDT (-0800
GMT) The 17 year old in the group is just starting.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:55AM PDT (-0800
GMT) The 13 year old has moved and two other families have not come to the
last two meetings. We're looking for new space to meet perhaps the Y.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:55AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
Off-hand, I don't have any suggestions. I will give it some thought
though. Out of curiousity, does a ball actually weigh differently
depending on if it is inflated or deflated. I wouldn't expect it to.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:56AM PDT (-0800
GMT) I must dash now. Time to rouse the children from their slumber and
begin to clean up from "free play/quiet time". See you next week?

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:57AM PDT (-0800
GMT) Nope, it weighs the same. that's the point I'll try to make.

Don (TX, Homeschool): . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:58AM PDT (-0800 GMT)
I have to go as well. Work calls. I will let you know if I come up with
any ideas. Have a good week.

Gayle - PTK Homeschool Chat Host: . . . . Wed, Jan 8, 11:58AM PDT (-0800
GMT) You too.
