Activity 1.3: STUDENT WORKSHEET
Following teacher directions, assemble a stream table using the wallpaper
tray as illustrated below.
- Tilt your tray to the angle assigned by the teacher. DO NOT CHANGE
ANGLE.
- Make sure your stream table will not move or slip.
- Carefully pour some sand into your tray and smooth it out to a uniform
depth of about 1/2 an inch.
- Use an index finger to create a small groove in the sand at the top,
middle of the tray about an inch long.
- Measure four cups of water into water jug and pour carefully through
1/4 in. funnel, allowing the water to run down the tray into this groove.
- Complete appropriate measurements and sketch the flow pattern which
results, carefully noting such things as:
- the shape of the flow pattern including whether the channel cut
by the water was straight or curved
- how wide the channel became
- how deep the channel became
- whether a small or large amount of sand was carried down stream
by the water
- whether or not avalanching occurred, and
- whether or not a delta was formed
For TRIALS 2-5: repeat STEPS 1-6, under the following conditions:
