Rat Habitat
Submitted by the rat team: Victor, Maria L., Hilda, Juanita, and Damaris
Montgomery High School
Rats like tunnels so our habitat has a series of tunnels. The tunnels
are made out of screen so that air can constantly blow through the habitat
pushing their waste to an area below the habitat with carbon, absorbent
paper a desicating agent and storage. We designed a habitat for the rats
who are participating in the experiment where they will use a wheel, rope
and ladder. The water is pumped into the habitat through a tube which
has nipples on it which they can suck. The food is carrots and other rat
food adhered to a surface under an air vent which will clean up scraps.
They will climb up to the upper level to eat. The air blowing through
the habitat will help maintain a constant temperature, remove wastes and
gasses.
