Spring Camp April 98

Berkshire Country Day School

Lenox, Massachusetts

The purpose of this camp is to teach children practical applications of today's technology. We used computers to do research in the internet. We selected a topic of study, in this case: The effects on the brain when it travels in space and we explored concepts and shared ideas using art and technology. The students created animations using Animagic, Adobe PageMill and PhotoShop. These animations are their unique expressions of The Brain study in Space. They also shared some of there ideas in writing. The students that participated in this week long project were from different grade levels (3-6).

We want to thank NASA for being such a wonderful influence in today's youth. We also want to thank Linda Conrad for showing such great enthusiasm in the net with this subject topic and for all her help.

Here is the work of 2 of our students:

Thanks,

We created this animation to show that we are learning how the brain reacts in space and we did the earth to show that we live there.

What do you think happens to astronauts when they are in space for a long time?

I think that their body's will get use to less gravity and their muscles will get weaker and start spinning in the air. When they come back from the trip it takes a while for their brain to get use to the Earth. I also think they will run out of water and food and their hair will stick up.They might even get sick.

Why is it harder to catch a ball in space?

In space it is harder to catch a ball because there is less gravity and your brain gets all confused at where the ball is. Your muscles are hard to control in space because you are floating everywhere; it's the same thing with the ball.
