Meet: Geoff Chu
Underclassman at Gunn High School
What I do at NASA
I draw any artwork that's needed. There is a cartoon which I draw, as
well as drawing diagrams for experiments. Because the pictures have to
be on the computer for layout, I first draw them freehand and then scan
them into the computer afterwards. Then I touch them up and color them
with PhotoShop. Actually I'm very involved with computers in what I do,
but just not as much as, say, Albert who's probably going to major in
something like that. I use PhotoShop and Illustrator, but not much else.
How did I get this job:
My mom works at Ames, and I heard about the job through her. I sent
in an application along with some of my artwork. There were a couple jobs
available, several of which involved a lot of knowledge about computers,
and some where you had to draw. So I applied for one of the jobs in which
you draw. A little while later they asked me for an interview and afterwards,
called and said I got the job.
Other things I find interesting
I think science is great, but it didn't really influence me getting
this job. I just thought that NASA would be a cool place to work. My favorite
area of science is physics, but I won't take that until I'm a senior.
