A Special Mission


Neurolab: April 1998

A very special mission called "Neurolab" will launch into space next April. The astronauts on the Neurolab mission will do experiments in a laboratory on the shuttle. The experiments will help us understand how the brain learns in space.

Jay Buckey is one of the astronauts who will be on board the shuttle for the Neurolab mission. His job, as a payload specialist, is to conduct many of the experiments. He is also a doctor.

Dr. Buckey writes letters to his son from the space shuttle. He tells his son about what he is doing and how it feels to be in space. He likes to go camping on Earth when he is not working in space.
