He will be chatting online as a part of his participation in that project. Since Tracy's current mission focus is Neurolab (you'll find him on our team page) we have been invited to tune in and participate or observe. A link has been provided in our "What's Hot" off the top page of NeurOn, or go directly to: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/shuttle/events/interact.html#chatting It should feel a lot like "home." ********************************************************** January 9, l998 The newest update was sent with news of the progress on the Great Habitat Debate and the Logo Contest. To catch up with any issues missed, see the link below, or go to: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/updates Mark your calendar Tuesday and join us at 10 a.m. Pacific time for a chat with computer expert Jeff Smith. Most of Jeff's part in Neurolab will begin when the Neurolab science returns after flight. Join us and ask him about it. ********************************************************** January 5, l998 Welcome back! We hope you are all rested up and ready for the Great Habitat Debate. http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/events/habitat This project is designed to parallel what actually happens as scientists and engineers have to consider the special circumstances encountered on orbit when designing habitats for animals that will travel in space. Chris Barreras gives you a little taste in his journal. (We're holding back on sharing the designs for awhile until we see yours.) See http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/journals ********************************************************** December 30, l997 It seems so quiet with so many folks gone for a brief break. However, we are continuing to grow the site. Note particularly the additions to Brad Berch's bio. Did you ever want to know what happened to the Solid Rocket Boosters? Talk about a re-cycling program! See: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/berch3.html ********************************************************** December 23, 1997 We certainly got what we asked for! Stefan Rosner returned from Kennedy Space Center with pictures and a tale to tell. See: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/journals ********************************************************** December 17, l997 If you've not been there recently, check out the video pages. WITN (What's in the News) has four experiments online to correspond with the January & February segments. Each can be easily implemented in the classroom. See http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/video ********************************************************** December 12, l997 NeurOn announces a logo design contest: Classrooms are invited to submit a graphic representation of one of the eight science teams sending experiments on STS-90! See project description and deadline at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/events/logo.html ********************************************************** December 10, l997 We received some more photos from Mission Specialist, Dave Williams, giving some more peeks at the training the crew members are going through as they prepare for flight. See NeurOn Team Journals at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/journals ********************************************************** December 8, l997 Wednesday (December 10) Louis Ostrach returns to chat with us regarding the Neurolab mission. Louis is responsible for making sure that all personel involved in Neurolab understand the requirements of the experiments and have the resources needed. He's in a key position to answer your questions! See his bio at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/ostrach.html ********************************************************** December 3, l997 Join us tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time to chat with Neuroscientist Wally Welker. This chat is designed to give classrooms the opportunity to ask questions about normal brain function on Earth as we begin to contemplate those changes we will observe on orbit. http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/chats ********************************************************** November 26, l997 We will not be sending a NeurOn Updates out this week due to the shortened classroom schedule in most U.S. schools. ********************************************************** November 21, l997 NeurOn Updates #4 was mailed featuring two journals that both spoke of the astronaut lung function experiment. Take a look at pictures of Dave Williams in training for that experiment at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team/journals/williams/11-18.html ********************************************************** November 12, l997 We had our first Web chat today with Duncan Atchison. As a result I was inspired to write NeurOn Updates #3 and devote it to the issue of expert Web chats. This truly exciting opportunity should be made available to your classroom! There's a link to the Updates archive below if you did not receive your copy by email. ********************************************************** November 8, l997 The first edition of the NeurOn ExPress (a magazine by kids, for kids) is now online. It is picture intensive so may take awhile to load, but I believe it's worth the wait. Check it out at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/kids/express There's a version for K-4 and another for 5-8. Sorry, before you ask, my latest word is that all hardcopies are spoken for. ********************************************************** November 1, l997 The second NeurOn Updates went out today announcing the schedule for the November chats. The schedule for chats will be maintained at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/chats Join us on Wednesday November 12 from 10:30 to 11:30 You can register for the chat at the above address as well. ********************************************************** October 20, l997 We have placed the first edition of NeurOn ExPress (the online version of SpaceLife ExPress magazine) at: http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/kids/express/index.html Take a look at this product of a summer's worth of work for five high school students. There's more coming... ********************************************************** October 15, l997 Today the first in a series of Updates was sent out to those of you who are already on the updates-lfm list. This one describes the processes that scientists, engineers, and astronauts are going through preparing for Neurolab. If you've not yet joined, you will find the updates archive using the link below. To receive these by email in the future, consider subscribing to updates-nrn. Instructions are included in the updates archive. ********************************************************** September 30, l997 We are continuing to develop the NeurOn site. Do check in on the biographies at http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/neuron/team as the list of experts willing to share their careers and lives with the classroom grows. Starring on this page we have some of the scientists whose experiments will fly on STS-90, members of the payload and experiment development team, and mission organizers from NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C. The roles are played by NASA government employees, contractors to the government, and university professors. We also link to the official bios for the crew that will fly aboard Neurolab. You'll see it takes a wide variety of talent and experience to put a Shuttle Mission together. ********************************************************** September 4, l997 Check here periodically as we begin to "grow" the NeurOn Website. Our present timeline anticipates opening the site for viewing by September 15 and becoming active by November 1. Our interactive project: The Great Habitat Debate, will officially begin the first week in January. In the meantime, register in the Welcome center and be sure that you are on the Updates mailing list. Welcome to NeurOn!
