I found it most interesting and filled with huge learning possibilities
and potentials for science classes in particular.
Excellent content, especially career bio's and photos.
The content of the site was extremely interesting to my students.
They loved the space pictures most.
My students were very interested in the more personal accounts of
the mission and aspects of activity on the space station. They responded
well to these more personal letters.
This was a favorite of my students.
The children really enjoyed participating. We would like to do more.
The activities were very applicable to the basic plant science that
I teach the students. It fit right into the course activities.
I certainly found it interesting and can see that these programs can
have enormous implications for learning in the science areas.
As a homeschooler, being able to participate in these activities opens
up many more doors and allows my older son to try and experience things
he otherwise would not have.
It was like a snow ball, when new solutions brought new questions
and new questions in their turn drew them to new solutions.
They do more on-line research on their own, they monopolize the computers
in the library with science research, they have started to become more
flexible in their thinking in that they are more secure in using information
gained in other areas.
They became much more aware of space science, an aspect of science
curricula in Australia which is not heavily taught. The Internet materials
certainly made the topic much more interesting.
They liked the idea of taking part in a "world-wide" project.
There was more of an interest to explore and not take for granted.
The parents were delighted to see their children performing a project
linked to NASA.
Students often think NASA is just astronauts, and not very many people
can become one. It's great for them to see it takes many different types
of people, with varied interests to do space research.
We saw scientists as real people.
Learning from the actual scientists and engineers involved is absolutely
invaluable.
The students thought it was great that "kids" could take part in the
project with their ideas.
I think all the materials posted have worked on that well, including
biographies of the experts and detailed reports from the researchers.
Besides, I think, participation in the project stimulated my students
to get more information about space investigation.
My students are dreading going to high school science classes next
year because they will be back in a text book. They appreciate that
science happens all the time, everywhere, and are comfortable with this
scheme. They now view studying science from a book as something you
do not do.
(This project) helped my kids develop a better appreciation for real
world issues because they can see what is happening in real life vs.
just a story. We distinguish between reality and fantasy in our second
grade curriculum.
Yes, this is the main reason why I am very very interested in NASA
(generated-by-science-as-scientists-do-research) projects!! Please keep
them coming. They are becoming much more understandable.
This has been the most talked-about project I have ever done. The
kids even tell their parents about it.
Good springboard for science, social studies and language arts curriculums.
I just read some of the postings and we talked about what was going
on. The realness of it all did impress them (despite themselves!)
I think the project helped my students see that what they are doing
in class is relevant to what happens in the real world.
Students felt honored to participate in such a project and also felt
empowered by being able to master the technology. They were very proud
of their abilities which the project allowed students to develop. Thank
you.
I think it was useful. My own experience and practice with this kind
of learning will make it better. Be patient with our learning curve,
and do not give up on this kind of activity.
I think the project was great and plan to use the materials in the
future. I would like some continued contact with other researchers or
classes doing similar activities.
Just keep up the tremendous work you are doing. As a member of the
Planetary Society, a futurist, a former employee of the Canadian Space
Agency, an educator, and a life-long fan of space research, I can only
thank you for providing such a wonderful research tool. As we get our
infrastructure together (such as e-mail and CuSeeMe capabilities), we
will be able to participate more fully.
