MISSION: STS-105 - 11th ISS Flight (7A.1) - Leonardo MPLM VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103 LOCATION: Launch Pad 39A TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Aug. 10, 2001 at 5:15 p.m. EDT TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Aug. 22, 2001 at about 1 p.m. MISSION DURATION: 11 days, 19 hours CREW: Horowitz, Sturckow, Barry, Forrester; (ISS up) Culbertson, Dezhurov, Tyurin; (ISS down) Usachev, Voss, Helms, ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 122 nautical miles/51.6 degrees Launch countdown activities for mission STS-105 were called off today at about 5:12 p.m. during the T-9 minute hold due to the high potential for lightning, a thick cloud cover and the potential for showers. These were clear violations of launch weather criteria. A 24-hour scrub turnaround has been called, leading to the next launch attempt on Friday, Aug. 10, at the preferred launch time of about 5:15 p.m. The launch window extends for about 5 minutes. Once the crew exits the vehicle over the next hour, they will return to their crew quarters at KSC. Meanwhile, launch directors are overseeing the off-loading of the propellants from the external tank. Tomorrow, operations to reload the external tank with its complement of 500,000 gallons of liquid cryogenic propellants is scheduled to began at about 8 a.m. The crew will be awakened at about 7 a.m. At about 11:30 a.m., they will have lunch followed by a final update on the launch time weather forecast. They are scheduled to depart for the pad at about 1:15 p.m. Weather forecasters are indicating a 70 percent chance that weather may prevent launch on Friday. The primary concerns are for showers and thunderstorms in the vicinity of the launch pad. -- end --
