MISSION: STS-108 - 12th ISS Flight (UF1) - MPLM VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105 KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Dec. 5, 2001 at 5:19:28 p.m. EST TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Dec. 16, 2001 at 12:28 p.m. EST CREW: Gorie, Kelly, Godwin, Tani; (ISS up) Onufrienko, Bursch, Walz; (ISS down) Culbertson, Dezhurov, Tyurin ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 122 nautical miles/51.6 degrees Shuttle Endeavour was successfully launched from Complex 39 Pad B at the appointed time of 5:19:28 p.m. EST today on the 12th mission to the International Space Station. The launch of STS - 108 occurred at dusk after completing a smooth, problem-free countdown that began this morning at the T-6 hour mark at 8:24 a.m., after a 24-hour scrub turnaround. Yesterday's launch attempt was postponed by adverse weather. Endeavour is scheduled to rendezvous and dock with the ISS at 3:04 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, and after completing the 11-day mission will land at the Kennedy Space Center at 12:28 p.m. Dec. 16. In the booster recovery area some 200 miles east of Jacksonville, retrieval ships Freedom Star and Liberty Star are on station with the expended booster casings in sight. Recovery operations will begin at first light tomorrow and the ships are expected to return to port Saturday morning. Launch managers were informed that the launch pad and other facilities sustained no unusual damage due to launch activities. -- end --
