KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SHUTTLE & PAYLOAD PROCESSING STATUS REPORT Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 (1:00 p.m.) NOTE: This is an orbiter processing report and does not necessarily reflect the chronological order of upcoming Space Shuttle flights. Visit http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/schedule/schedule.htm on the KSC Home Page for the latest schedule of future Shuttle missions. MISSION: STS-109 - HST Servicing Mission 3B VEHICLE: Columbia/OV-102 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE: Feb. 28, 2002 TARGET KSC LANDING DATE: March 11, 2002 MISSION DURATION: 11 days CREW: Altman, Carey, Grunsfeld, Currie, Newman, Linnehan, Massimino ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 308 nautical miles/28.5 degrees Shuttle Processing Note: Processing operations remain on schedule for the launch of the STS-109 Hubble Space Telescope (HST) repair mission on Feb. 28. Shuttle Columbia rolled over from its Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) bay to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) yesterday afternoon. The Orbiter will be mated to the External Tank (ET)/Solid Rocket Booster stack in the VAB high bay today. The monoball interface assembly will be connected between the Orbiter and the ET this weekend. The space vehicle will be powered up for the Shuttle interface test on Monday. Rollout to the launch pad is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23. Payload Processing Note: The NICMOS Cryogenic Cooler for Hubble arrived today and is being installed on the carrier for flight. Members of the flight crew will perform an inspection of the HST flight hardware in the Vertical Processing Facility on Jan. 23. The Reaction Wheel Assembly is scheduled to be delivered to KSC early next month. MISSION: STS-110 - 13th ISS Flight (8A) - ITS SO TRUSS AND MOBILE TRANSPORTER VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE: NET April 4, 2002 TARGET KSC LANDING DATE: April 15, 2002 MISSION DURATION: 11 days CREW: Bloomfield, Frick, Ross, Smith, Ochoa, Morin, Walheim ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 122 nautical miles/51.6 degrees Shuttle Processing Note: In the OPF, the main engines have been installed in Shuttle Atlantis and payload pre-mate tests are in progress. Shuttle managers have made the decision to remove engine No.3 and replace the main fuel valve after receiving a report yesterday that a main fuel valve sealing surface may be flawed. Some 500 pounds of fuel onboard the Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) will be drained this weekend in preparation for removing the pods to inspect attach point No. 5 and make repairs, if necessary. The work is not expected to impact the launch schedule.
