pick up vans at Wallworks.
- 8:30 a.m: Group gathers at NDSU. Registration. Introductions
and course overview.
- Morning: OSL presentation by Lepper,
with tour of OSL lab.
- Morning: talks by McKay and Rask.
- Lunch
- Afternoon: field tour to Bluestem
Prairie (Lake Agassiz strands); engineering geology of Stockwood
Fill; artesian well; morainic uplands with kettles (as time
allows)
- OPTION: Geoprobe drilling of a
glacial landform.
- Return to Fargo.
- Evening session at NDSU: 2 hours,
topic TBD but likely on landform analyses of glacial system.
- Overnight for group in Fargo.
- TOTAL INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS: 10
Tuesday, June 23rd:
- 8 a.m: vans leave NDSU, and head
southwest.
- Morning: Sheyenne “delta”,
Sheyenne meltwater trench, dunes, fluvial landforms.
- Lunch
- Afternoon: outwash, hydraulic (sand) “volcanoes”,
eskers and kames, travel to tip of Prairie Coteau.
- Return to Fargo.
- Evening session at NDSU: 2 hours,
topics TBD.
- Overnight for group in Fargo.
- TOTAL INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS: 10
Wednesday, June 24th:
- 8 a.m: vans leave NDSU and head
south.
- Morning: outlet of Lake Agassiz (the “River Warren”).
- Morning through early afternoon: OSL
chronology of Lake Agassiz strands.
- Afternoon: glacial features atop
the Prairie Coteau; the granites/saprolites at Milbank
- Return to Fargo in late evening.
- Overnight for group either in Fargo
or Grand Forks (individual teacher’s option).
- TOTAL INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS: 9
Thursday, June 25th:
- Vans for “Fargo-based” group
depart NDSU at 6:45 a.m, and travel to UND-CAS (Grand Forks).
- 8 a.m: tour of UND-CAS facilities. Space
suit talk by de Leon, others.
- Afternoon: the Dahlen esker: landform analyses, with initial
testing of technologies.
- Return to Grand Forks (overnight)
- TOTAL INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS: 9
Friday, June 26th:
- 8 a.m.: vans leave UND and return to Dahlen esker.
- Morning/afternoon: space suit work and further testing of technologies.
- Return to Grand Forks. Course ends in late afternoon. Return
home.
