National Park Service Ranger and the
Education Specialist at Lassen Volcanic National Park

I am a National Park Service Ranger and the Education Specialist at Lassen Volcanic National Park. I have worked at the park for the past eighteen years and love it. I have one of the best jobs in the National Park Service. Before coming to work for the National Park Service I was an instructor at Mendocino College in Ukiah CA in the Department of Natural Resources. I also taught numerous summer field courses in natural resource management and natural history for colleges in both CA and Colorado.

My current position at Lassen Volcanic National Park is with the Division of Interpretation and Education where I manage the park’s year-round education and outreach program which serves schools from thirty counties, grades K through College. What could be better than having a 106,000 acre national park as your outdoor classroom. I am a curious naturalist that loves to explore and discover all of the sciences associated with the natural history of planet Earth and beyond. I have also worked with the Secretary of Interior Office of International Affairs as project coordinator for the Partnership for Biodiversity program in Shey Phoksundo National Park Nepal. In the summer months I supervise the Loomis Museum Visitor Center at Manzanita Lake and the ranger-led interpretation programs/activities offered to the public. I love to hike and Lassen has over 150 miles of trails to keep me busy in my spare time. I have worked with NASA Ames for the past three years assisting scientists who have research sites in Lassen Volcanic National Park as part of the Mission to Mars program. I am excited about the upcoming Spaceward Bound program at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The park is the perfect outdoor classroom to host such a program.
