I am an elementary teacher at Victoria Magathan Elementary School, in Adelanto (Southern California). I am currently participating in a Dual Language Immersion Program, which means that I am teaching my students mainly in Spanish. This is my thirteenth year as a teacher, and during all this time I have worked with students from 3 to 18 years old, and also adults. But this is only my second year in this country. I am from Madrid, Spain, where I got my BA in Elementary Education, and my MA in English. I’m really enjoying my experience here, because it is very enriching, both personally and professionally. Actually, I came for only one year and the next one is going to be my third one here. Personally, I like sports, nature, reading, painting, music, hanging out with friends on the weekends, and especially traveling as much as possible. As a teacher, I like to give my students (and myself) the opportunity to learn things that won’t be found in textbooks, things that won’t be useful only to pass an exam. That’s why I love project-based lessons so much, and that’s why I’m so excited about this experience in the desert. I’m sure both they and I are going to take advantage of it. |
