Doug Porter General Information: My name is Doug Porter and I currently teach for Rising Sun Ohio County Community Schools. I have taught for fourteen years. During that time I have taught 6th grade life science, 7th grade earth and space science, 8th grade physical science, and high school biology, integrated science, technical science and chemistry. During my career at Rising Sun, I have also been a member of the school district’s technology committee, and have coached the robotics team, academic team, solar race team, science Olympic team, high fuel mileage race team, the cycling team and the aerospace club. Education: I have BA in Anthropology, a BS in Biology and a Master’s degree in education. I am certified to teach Biology, General Science, Physical Science and Chemistry Activities, Honor, AwardsI have attended the National Congress on Aviation and Space Education in 2003, the NASA Educator Astronaut conferences 2004 to present, the 2005 NASA and Challenger Center teacher workshop in Brownsburg, Indiana. I interviewed at Johnson Space center to be an Educator Astronaut in 2004. I am currently a member of the NSTA, a Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellow, a member of the Network of Educator Astronaut Teachers, an Aerospace Educator, an Airspace Systems Education cohortmember and most recently was selected as one of 250 teachers across the nation for a Northrop Grumman Weightless Flights of Discovery Flight, through Zero-G Corporation. Part-time I work for the Cincinnati iSPACE Challenger Center as a robotics and aeronautics camp instructor and serve on the iSPACE Education committee as Co-chair. I also write and currently have had articles published in Robot Magazine. Hobbies: Enjoying the time with my family while
hiking, geocaching, canoeing, RC flying, rocketry, robotics and watching
my kids play soccer. |
