Laura Ann Speegle
Science Teacher  

Professional: 
I graduated from Wayne State University with honors after obtaining a Masters Degree. In 1992 I began teaching for Detroit Public Schools, teaching Science in grades four and five for the last four years. This year I was selected as the Michigan Air Force Association Teacher of the Year.

As part of the NASA program, I have attended workshops at NASA’s Glenn Research Center and Goddard Space Flight Center. Two of my fifth grade students and I went to Johnson Space Center in May of 2004, to participate in a student symposium.

I have had the opportunity to attend many workshops and conferences. I presented on opportunities for teachers with NASA at this years and last years MSTA Conferences. I also presented at the Metro Detroit Science Teachers Associations Conference this year.

Personal:
I live alone with a menagerie of animals (bearded dragon, snake, frogs, fish, turtles, and a cat). I am an avid reader. My competitive interests include; racquetball, volleyball, boxing, jogging and weightlifting. My greatest personal achievement was training for and completing a marathon in 2002.
