Jenelle Hopkins
Centennial High School
Las Vegas, Nevada

Hi! My name is Jenelle Hopkins and I am a Geology Honors and Geoscience (aka Earth Science) teacher at Centennial High School, Las Vegas, Nevada. I have been teaching with the Clark County School District since 1993. Although currently teaching Geoscience, I have also had many years teaching Environmental Science where I spent a lot of time teaching my students about the desert ecosystem.

I come to teaching from a short career in the mining industry. So I can bring to the team some expertise in rocks and minerals, but little knowledge of biology. But I consider myself a fast learner and I am very excited to have the chance to learn new things and to find opportunities for developing some cross-curricular lessons for my curriculum.

My husband and I enjoy hiking and fossil and mineral collecting in the desert southwest. We have even traveled to China to dig for dinosaurs. The Mojave Desert has been a favorite spot of ours because of its spectacular diversity of geology. I am looking forward to spending time with the experts learning more about this area from a biological viewpoint.
