Lead Educator, Research Scientist
Victorian Space Science Education Centre
Spaceward Bound Mojave 2010

Hi, my name’s Danielle, and I am Lead Educator at the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC). My awesome job lets me explore ‘Mars’, visit an ‘Orbiting Space Laboratory’, grow extremophiles and play with analytical machines, all the while teaching years 9-12 science. Working at VSSEC allows me to indulge in my passion for geology, astrobiology and secondary science education.

After completing my Bachelor of Science in geosciences at Monash University, I completed a Master of Science degree in vertebrate palaeontology focusing on functional morphology of extinct marsupial skull anatomy and the environmental conditions contributing to distribution of these extinct marsupials. While doing this I worked as a Demonstrator for 1st year Geoscience and 2nd/3rd year palaeontology. VSSEC gives me the opportunity to reach an even younger age group, to educate and hopefully inspire these students to continue studying science.

When I’m not at VSSEC I can be found teaching karate, camping, volunteering at a dinosaur dig, downhill skiing, trying to ride horses, venturing down very deep and muddy caves and generally out and about taking photos of everything I can. I am so excited to be a part of Spaceward Bound; to meet all the fantastic scientists involved in this program and to bring a whole lot of very cool new science back to VSSEC!
