Third Grade GSP Class at Lockmar Elementary, Palm Bay, Florida, with
Mrs. Heine
We followed the directions for sprouting wheat seeds in the plastic bags.
Here are our results:
Bag 1 was placed between the mini-blinds and the south window of our
portable. Only one seed sprouted on Day 3. We think it got too hot in
the sun and too cold at night.
Bag 2 was hung from the overhead fluorescent ceiling light.
Seeds 2, 7 and 9 sprouted on Day 2 and the rest on Day 3. The average
classroom temperature was 75 degrees F. The lights are on about 10.5
hours per day.
Bag 3 was on the side of a computer carrel. It was shaded but received
general room light. The temperature and length of light was the same as
above.
Seeds 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 sprouted on Day 3. Day 5 was on the weekend as we
started on Tuesday. The seeds 7 and 8 had sprouted by Monday.
We planted our seedlings outside in our garden. When we left for Winter
Break, about 6 were continuing to grow. We have not had a freeze or even
a frost. The temperature did get into the upper 30s overnight for a few
days, but it has been warm again.
