RE: When they say aerospace engineering, what exactly does that include?
Although NASA JSC deals with aerospace or space flight, we also have many other areas of engineering and this program encourages all the different areas such as mechanical, electrical, agricultural and many others.

[ Lori/QuestChatHost - 45 - 17:08:24 ]
RE: Hi - I am Rebecca Cutri-Kohart and a mentor in last year's program (I don't know if my messages are getting sent or not).
Hi Rebecca Cutri-Kohart! I am getting your messages and trying to place as many in the room as I can. Glad you could join us today!

[ Lisa/Doug - 46 - 17:08:34 ]
RE: What is the highest level mathematics used in this program?
Pre-Calculus

[ Lisa/Doug - 47 - 17:09:51 ]
RE: Are we going to interact with other students from around Texas or is it possible for the applicants from our town to be in the group or week?
We try to put a variety of student locations together each week. One of the most memorable things of the week is the new friends that are made.

[ Lori/QuestChatHost - 48 - 17:10:45 ]
This is a moderated chat room, so unfortunately you can not chat between yourselves. Only the experts can answer the questions in the room. Sorry -- we do this because usually our audience is K-12 students :-)

[ LisaDoug - 49 - 17:11:18 ]
RE: will we be dealing with lots of physics?
Absolutely, as well as many other areas. You will actually use the science concepts that you know to do projects. So you put your knowledge into action.

[ Lisa/Doug - 51 - 17:13:10 ]
RE: What kind of projects will we be working on????
The curriculum covers shuttle, station, moon and Mars. You will have some projects that you decide which topics to cover. You'll use your creativity!

[ Lisa/Doug - 54 - 17:14:25 ]
RE: Is the use of chemistry involved in the program?
Limited use of chemistry, but we do use chemical engines in our rocket projects.

[ Lisa/Doug - 56 - 17:15:26 ]
RE: How much hands on work is involved?
You will get the opportunity to do hands on activities daily. You'll get your money's worth!

[ Lisa/Doug - 60 - 17:17:22 ]
RE: In the Nasa program are we going to be giving certain amounts of time to complete projects? and if so does the required time require to have a schedule of amounts of time we are allowed to spend a week?
Students have two weeks per lesson on the online curriculum. As for the on-site week, you definitely have some time constraints!

[ Lisa/Doug - 61 - 17:18:45 ]
RE: Is it true the Aerospace Scholars distance learning material are available for little or no cost to other States and organizations interested in establishing a program of their own? What is the cost per student to maintain and grow the program? What is the size of the staff (full time to volunteers) in order to insure the program runs well?
Please email this question to our aerospace scholars website and we will be happy to answer you, as this will take a little more time.

[ Lisa/Doug - 64 - 17:21:40 ]
RE: How much money will we be given, and if we do not use all of it will we be given some of it.
Students do not receive money. The cost of the program includes transportation, hotel and meals, which are paid for by the program. Teachers who are selected to be counselors receive a stipend.

[ Lisa/Doug - 65 - 17:23:16 ]
RE: How are students divided into teams?
Administration assigns teams based on homework participation and final project submissions.

[ Lisa/Doug - 67 - 17:24:16 ]
RE: Hey Lisa and Doug, its Matt Wilkinson from week 1 white team, I was wondering who I should email if I wanted to help with the program?
Thanks for joining us today. Could you email your questions to the website and we will answer you later!

[ Lisa/Doug - 68 - 17:25:16 ]
RE: What regulations will we have to follow by? such as dress code, etc.
There is definitely a dress code as well as rules of conduct for scholars. All of this information is posted on the website.

[ Lisa/Doug - 70 - 17:27:14 ]
RE: I'm Colonel Dzur Aerospace Science instructor at Medina Valley High School. I had cadets participate in the program last year. We are interested in participating again this year. I couldn't get Real Player to work today.
Thanks for your part in getting students involved in this program! Just email us at our website and we will get you more information.

[ Lisa/Doug - 72 - 17:28:24 ]
RE: Do we get to choose which projects we are a part of, or are we assigned them?
During the summer you are assigned the team/project.

[ Lisa/Doug - 73 - 17:29:44 ]
RE: how difficult/time consuming is the work that has to be done before the actual week?
It does take some time, but most students seem to be able to get it done. It could take from 2 hrs. per week to however long you take to get it done.

[ Lisa/Doug - 75 - 17:31:58 ]
RE: How much time will we be expected to invest on the spring Internet course every week? Will we work on a daily basis?
Approximately 2 hrs. Per week . Whether you do it daily or maybe spend a weekend working on it depends on you and what all your schedule will allow. It's worth the effort to make room for it!

[ Lisa/Doug - 76 - 17:32:51 ]
RE: I am involved in many different programs after school, taking a lot of my time, how much time do I have to spend on the spring projects????
We realize that you have many other obligations. Approximately 2 hrs. Per week . Whether you do it daily or maybe spend a weekend working on it depends on you and what all your schedule will allow. It's worth the effort to make room for it!
