What are your current job responsibilities
(asked in 1996)
I am a theoretical astrophysicist in charge of the Center for Star Formation Studies.
Active in the SOFIA project, involved in many KAO flight programs.
How did you get to this point in your
career (what education and previous jobs did you have)?
B.A. from Hope College (small liberal arts college in Michigan) PhD from Cornell
University in Theoretical Physics Postdoctoral position at Harvard University
(Astrophysics) Assistant Professor at Colorado College and University of Colorado
What was your personal motivation for following
this path?
First thought I would go to a primarily teaching position at a college. Ended
up liking research so much I opted for research at Ames.
What are your goals during the next year?
Help the SOFIA project get started Organize a Star Formation Workshop at UC Santa
Cruz this summer Finish research with collaborator in Florence, Italy
What other personal tidbits would you
like to share (hobbies, family, etc)?
I have a 15 year old daughter (not interested in science yet) Main hobbies: backpacking,
playing the guitar
