Sarah

photo of sarah Hi! Mine name is Sarah Zaki, and I am a 10th grader and a member of the Young Women of NASA Advisory Council. In the spring of 1999 I was fortunate enough to begin working with Women of NASA. My job was and still is to write profiles for the Women who are mentors for the project. This eventually led to me joining the Young Women's Advisory Council. Although I have yet to attend any of the launches, I am in the midst of planning a very exciting "adventure" for the group. Which I hope will take place very soon.

More about me... I am an avid reader and make it my goal to read at least four books a month (one a week). I recommend this to everyone as a way of expanding your own ideas and thoughts. It has opened my eyes and made me a more critical thinker. I often spend weeks contemplating the ending of a story. I am also very interested in sports, and I think that I may have tried one too many! I have tried everything from iceskating to softball. I may not have stuck with all of them, but I have learned what the saying, "If you don't succeed, try again" really means. By trying new things, I have not only made lifelong friends but I have also developed a more outgoing personality.

OK, I am going to let you in on a little secret - In order to do well in math, I have gone through countless amounts of tutoring and bugging my teachers after school. Math never has been my "strong point" in school, so in order to stay on top of it I have to tried extra hard. Same with science, although I have always enjoyed the subject. Biology is super hard! English, I must admit has my heart.

If I were to tell you one thing it would be this.

"Do not ponder too long about what happened in the past, nor worry too much about your future. The only thing that you can change is the present, and eventually that too will become your past. Make it something that you do not want to ponder upon unless it's to re-live the feeling of "seizing the day".

In October I had a thrill of a lifetime and took a trip to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas for a photo shoot with astronauts Eileen Collins, Ellen Ochoa, and Yvonne Cagle. In addition to spending time with the astronauts we also toured the Space Center. Read about my Johnson Space Center adventure
