Profiles of Featured Women

We invite you to join us and learn more about these exceptional women who are featured in our interactive events. This conference is devoted to giving young women anywhere in the world who have Internet access the opportunity to share the unique experiences of these women and expand the horizons of their own future choices.


mary cleave photo Mary L. Cleave, P.h.D., P.E. NASA Deputy Director for Earth Science, and former astronaut / Goddard Space Flight Center - Dr. Cleave is currently working on Earth observations at GSFC because of her concerns that human activity is changing the surface of the Earth too rapidly, based on the changes she observed in the four years between her two space flights. Dr. Cleave is the Project Manager for the Sea-viewing Wide Field-ofview Sensor (SeaWiFS), an ocean color sensor that is monitoring global marine chlorophyll concentration. She is a former astronaut and has flown two missions and has logged over 262 hours in space.

aprille ericksson jackson photo Aprille Ericsson-Jackson Aerospace Engineer / Goddard Space Flight Center - Aprille is an an aerospace engineer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the Guidance, Navigation and Control, Design Analysis section. She has received numerous awards including Women in Science and Engineering award, Top 50 minority women in Science and Engineering, Black Engineers Award. She was the first female to receive a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University and First African American female to receive a Ph.D. in Engineering at NASA GSFC.

  Rondalyn Kane - Deputy Director of US Department of Labor Women's Bureau / Department of Labor Rondalyn S. Kane was appointed to the position of Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau in March 2000. She brings with her twenty years of commitment to public service through leadership at the Federal, state and local levels and a demonstrated interest in issues of concern to working women and minorities.

  Andrea McCurdy - Project Manager for NASA Oceanography Outreach / NASA Headquarters - Andrea McCurdy is a project manager for NASA Oceanography Outreach. Andrea has worked since 1990 to help the public and the education community understand the uses and benefits of the Internet. Most recently she has managed several interactive streaming audio and video projects for NASA. Andrea has a Master of Science degree in Telecommunicaitons from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado.

andrea norris photo Andrea Norris Deputy Chief Information Officer / NASA Headquarters - As CIO, Andrea's office is responsible for advising the NASA Administrator and other key leaders on information technology issues and representing NASA's interests in information technology with the Administration, Congress, and the public. In addition, her office is responsible for improving how we deliver information technology systems and services to NASA missions and programs.

kathie olsen photo Kathie Olsen, Ph.D. NASA Chief Scientist / NASA Headquarters - In her position as Chief Scientist, Dr. Olsen serves as the Administrator's senior scientific advisory and principal interface with the national and international scientific community. Dr. Olsen is responsible for ensuring the NASA programs are universally regarded as scientifically and technologically valid and is the principal advisor to the Administrator on the budget content of NASA's science programs.

adriana ocompo photo Adriana Ocompo Research Scientist, Program Executive for Space Science Missions / NASA Headquarters - Adriana C. Ocampo Uria is a research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where she has worked since 1973. In 1998 Ms. Ocampo was appointed to work at NASA Headquarters. During her appointment at Headquarters she will be working at the Office of Space Science and the Office of External Relations as a program executive for Space Science missions with international collaboration.

kim weaver photo Kim Weaver, Ph.D. - Astronomer, Astrophysicist / Goddard Space Flight Center - Dr. Weaver is an astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. As an X-ray astronomer, she studies particles of light that are very energetic and emerge from regions near massive black holes at the centers of other galaxies.
